Let It Go

I wrote the following poem based on a conversation on a men’s prayer line I dial into each Tuesday morning. Doing the message of the poem is harder than writing about letting go our resentments, grudges, and anger. I’m still a work in progress. Most likely you are too. The message is found in the Lord’s prayer: “Forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors.” (Matthew 6: 12, NASB) May the Spirit of Jesus fill your sail today.

Let It Go!

When we bear harbored
Resentment and a bitter grudge,
Hearts can’t set sail ‘cause we’re moored
By the deep weight of the sludge.

Refrain:

Let it go, let it go!
Release your heart’s ills
And hoist the sail to catch
The Spirit’s breeze for life’s thrills.

(Refrain)

The grudges squeeze us;
The simmering anger burns us;
The bitter root poisons us;
But God’s special touch heals us.

(Refrain)

Stubbornness takes flight
When forgiveness fills our healed hearts.
We put to death self-will’s blight,
Putting Christ first in our hearts.

(Refrain)

God healed and filled us,
Thru’ faith in the blood Jesus shed
And his new life from the dead,
To spread his good news through us.

(Refrain)
